GSA names three to top posts

The Senate skipped town for summer break without confirming Martha Johnson as the head of the General Services Administration, but the agency today moved ahead with three political appointments that don't require Senate confirmation:

• Bob Peck returns as Public Buildings Service commissioner, a role he held during the Clinton administration. He oversees an $8 billion-a-year organization with 6,200 employees administering 354 million square feet of office space.

• Michael Robertson, GSA's White House liaison, becomes chief acquisition officer and associate administrator of government-wide policy. As acquisition chief, he'll manage the GSA acquisition workforce and review acquisition policies and training for GSA and other federal acquisition professionals. As policy chief, he will develop and evaluate management policies in areas such as property management, information technology, and travel and transportation. He also will continue as White House liaison, a role he has held since February.

• Commercial real estate attorney Stephen Leeds is senior counsel to the administrator. Leeds is the founding partner of Atlanta law firm Rogers and Hardin. He also has worked with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and was also a member of then-Sen. Barack Obama's National Finance Committee.
