Federal travelers will get reimbursed 51 cents per mile when they use their own cars on official business, under new 2011 rates published by the General Services Administration Dec. 21.

That is a one-cent increase from 2010, when travelers got 50 cents per mile; in 2009, they received 55 cents.

The rate for private cars when a government vehicle is authorized is 19 cents.

The rate for travelers using their own motorcycles will also increase one cent, from 47 to 48 cents per mile.

The private airplane rate will remain unchanged at $1.29.

The new rates will take place Jan. 1.
