President Obama on Friday granted federal employees Christmas Eve off.

In an executive order, Obama said all executive branch agencies will be closed Dec. 24 and most employees will be excused from duty. Agency heads may decide if certain offices or installations should remain open for reasons of national security, defense or other public need.

This will give federal employees a four-day weekend to enjoy Christmas. Feds last got Christmas Eve off in 2007, the last time Christmas fell on a Tuesday. President George W. Bush also granted feds the day after Christmas off in 2008, when Christmas fell on a Thursday.

President Obama gave federal employees a half-day off for Christmas Eve in 2009, but took no action in 2010 or 2011.
