The Health and Human Services Department is planning on building an online portal employees can use to purchase cloud services, according to an HHS official.
Frank Baitman, chief information officer at HHS, said the agency was planning to build an online portal that would give employees a choice between cloud providers who met specific security and price requirements.
He said it would allow employees to focus on their missions and programs while saving the agency time and money. He said by setting standards for the cloud providers participating in the portal it would take the guesswork out of having to choose a new provider for each cloud service required.
“It’s a watershed event and it’s pretty exciting,” Baitman said.
The portal is still in the planning stages and no date has been set for its completion, according to HHS.
