The Federal Aviation Administration is finishing up a two-year consolidation of its information technology purchasing and contracting operations, a move the agency says will save $36 million this fiscal year.
About 750 agency employees were affected by the consolidation, according to an FAA spokesman. The consolidation did not involve reductions in force and no employees had to move, according to the spokesman.
The end result will be a central office that coordinates purchases, contracts and the development of IT systems and programs that will leverage the agency’s buying power and avoid duplications of effort, according to the agency.
The agency expects to finish the consolidation by early 2014.
