The Combined Federal Campaign pledge season is getting a one-month extension to Jan. 15 because of the partial government shutdown that ended last week, acting Office of Personnel Management Director Elaine Kaplan said in a Thursday memo.
During the 16-day shutdown, “many CFC events were put on hold or canceled,” Kaplan wrote, while many federal employees faced financial uncertainty or hardship.
This year’s pledge season began Sept. 1 and had originally been set to end Dec. 15. Charities and organizers had been calling for the extension in hopes of making up for any damage caused by the shutdown.
As the campaign now fully resumes, Kaplan wrote, “I encourage all federal employees to attend campaign events, learn more about specific charities within the CFC and give to the causes they support most passionately.”
