The application and enrollment tools within HealthCare.gov stopped working for 90 minutes Monday, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services confirmed in a conference call with reporters.
Julie Bataille, director of communications for the Center for Medicare Services, said the brief outage did not affect other parts of the site and that despite the outage the agency was making progress in fixing the site.
HealthCare.gov and the federal health insurances exchanges opened Oct. 1 to a series of technical glitches and error messages. The administration has vowed to fix the site by the end of November.
We remain on our path so that by the end of November the site will be improved for a vast majority of visitors, Bataille said.
She said the outage resulted from an overload on a small number of servers and the ability of the servers to balance the loads of incoming traffic. The outage happened early in the afternoon.
We are clearly frustrated with the current state of the site but as the assessment we have done shows HealthCare.gov is fixable, she said.
