The Senate last week confirmed two senior executives: Deborah James for Air Force secretary and Heather Higginbottom, deputy Secretary of State for management.

Many more are expected to be confirmed as the Senate grinds its way through dozens of pending nominations for top executive branch posts and federal judgeships under new rules that limit Republicansí ability to filibuster. Nominees who could get confirmation votes before the Senate adjourns for the year include Janet Yellen as Federal Reserve chairman; Jeh Johnson, in line to become Department of Homeland Security secretary; and Alejandro Mayorkas, the nominee for DHS deputy secretary.
