The IT office at the Veterans Affairs Department will be focusing in 2014 on improving its system baseline practices and procedures; configuration management; patch management; and elevated privilege review, according to an internal memo.

VA chief information officer Stephen Warren said in the Dec. 30 memo that the agency will be placing “special emphasis” on the review of baseline practices, to make sure the agency is consistently implementing them. Fedscoop obtained and first reported on the memo.

Warren became VA’s acting CIO with the departure of predecessor Roger Baker last March. The department dropped the “acting” from his title in October.
