Dave Nelson, the acting chief information officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has been appointed to serve as the agency CIO, according to a letter to employees from administrator Marilyn Tavenner.
Nelson, the former director of the office of enterprise management at CMS, has been the acting CIO since the December departure of Tony Trenkle.
“Dave brings deep experience both as a manager and technologist to this critically important position,” Tavenner said in the letter.
Tim Love, the deputy chief operating officer at CMS, has also been promoted to become the new chief operating officer at the agency, according to Tavenner.
Michele Snyder, the former chief operating officer, retired in December.
