A large number of federal employees are putting themselves and their agencies at risk with lax mobile device security practices, according to a report by the Mobile Work Exchange.
While 86 percent of employees lock their computer while away from their desks, and 78 percent store files in a secure location, nearly a quarter of emmployees do not password-protect the mobile devices they use for work.
Six percent of respondents who use a mobile device at work say they have at some point lost or misplaced their phone, according to the study.
About 15 percent of employees have downloaded a non-work-related app onto their work phone and 10 percent have opened an email or text from someone they didnít know, according to the report.
The report recommends employees undergo more IT training related to mobile device security and best practices for protecting data.
