Federal contractors would see their minimum wage rise under an expected executive order. ()
President Obama announced during the annual State of the Union Address that he plans to sign an executive order raising the minimum wage for federal contractors to $10.10 an hour.
The increased wage will only apply to employee wages on new contracts.
The administration has been pressured for months by outside groups and Democratic lawmakers to raise the minimum wage for federal contractors working at the minimum wage.
Lorraine Miller, the interim president of the NAACP, said in a Dec. 4 statement the organization strongly supports an executive order to increase the minimum wage for contract workers.
The federal government should be a shining example of fair and just treatment by increasing the minimum wage for all employees of federal contractors, Miller said.
