The General Services Administration has extended the request for information deadline for its building maintenance and operations contract to Feb. 7, according to an agency announcement.

The agency is working alongside 17 other agencies to create a governmentwide contract to help manage the purchase of heating and cooling systems, elevator repair, landscaping, janitorial services and even utilities, according to the agency.

The agency cited a “high level of interest” in the RFI as the reason for the deadline extension.

Building operations and maintenance will be the latest strategic sourcing effort by GSA to help drive down costs through bulk purchasing across agencies.

The RFI will help the agency gather information on best practices within the affected industries as well as how to measure cost and operations savings from more efficient mechanical systems or better management of resources.
