The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is the latest in a growing number of agencies working to make their websites more mobile-friendly.

In a Feb. 6 blog post Genevieve Contey, who helps manage the agency’s social media and web properties, said the website for the agency’s National Ocean Service automatically re-sizes to fit a variety of devices, a technique called responsive design.

The website is also much easier for users to find popular information such as nautical charts, tide schedules and podcasts on ocean and coastal issues, according to Contey. About 25 percent of the web traffic comes from mobile device – a number the agency expects to continue growing.

The agency is also working on making its main website responsive and mobile friendly, according to Contey.
