The Energy Department issued a request for proposals March 20 for the selection of a contractor to manage its Brookhaven National Laboratory.
The five-year, $3.25 billion contract, would begin Jan.5, 2015. The laboratory conducts nuclear and high-energy physics experiments and is visited by about 4,000 scientists a year.
Contractors have until June 19 to submit proposals. The Energy department will also host a formal pre-proposal conference within 30 days, according to the agency.
The current contractor is Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC. Laboratory funding for fiscal 2014 is expected to be $650 million, according to the agency.
