Graphics processors could unlock the power of Big Data, DARPA officials believe. (Nvidia)
DARPA believes graphics processing units might hold the key to Big Data, according to reports.
DARPA project manager Chris White, speaking at the GPU Technology Conference in San Jose in late March, said GPUs, tuned to process enormous amounts of data quickly, might be ideal for government and military systems.
“The GPU has enormous potential for DARPA in solving analytics problems,” White said, according to an article posted by GPU maker Nvidia.
Only two of DARPA’s data science projects use GPUs, according to Nvidia, including its XDATA cloud. White wants to find people with the expertise to extrapolate the XDATA process to military sensors and communications systems.
