The federal workforce shrank by 9,700 employees in March, according to numbers released April 4 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
The Postal Service lost 1,200 jobs in March while the rest of the federal government accounted for 8,500 jobs lost. The federal government has lost 85,000 jobs over the past year, and 18,400 workers since the beginning of January, according to the BLS.
Meanwhile, private sector companies added 192,000 in March and local governments across the country added 11,000 workers. State governments lost 2,000 jobs.
