Health care systems and medical devices are at increased risk of cyber attacks, according to the FBI’s cyber division.

As organizations transition from paper to electronic health records -- which they are required to do by 2015 -- cyber attackers will likely increase their activities, the FBI wrote in a recent notice.

The FBI said medical devices could be breached and attackers could then gain access to more important health systems.

“The health care industry is not as resilient to cyber intrusions compared to the financial and retail sectors, therefore the possibility of increased cyber intrusions is likely,” the notice said.
