Katherine Archuleta: Phased retirement is coming, but timetable is uncertain. (Mike Morones)
The Office of Personnel Management is finalizing regulations on phased retirement and should be done soon, according to director Katherine Archuleta, speaking at a Partnership for Public Service town hall May 8.
Archuleta has been unable to identify a more specific timetable for completing the regulations, which would allow employees who are eligible for retirement to work half-time while getting half of their pension.
As they continue to work, phased retirees also will keep accruing additional service credit toward their final pensions.
“I know they are still drafting that but we are very hopeful it’s going to be soon,” Archuleta said.
A draft proposal issued by OPM last year drew more than 230 comments from federal workers, employee groups, agencies and human resource managers.
