Solar panels are back on the White House.

The announcement was made in a video posted May 9. The White House originally announced it would install solar panels in 2010, but did not place them on the White House until recently.

Energy Department Secretary Ernest Moniz said in the video that the solar panels sent an important message about the prominent place of solar energy in America’s energy future.

Cyrus Wadia, assistant director for clean energy and materials research and development at the White House Office of Science and Technology, said in the video all the components for the solar array were made in America.

“It serves as a symbol that American technology in solar is available and reliable and ready for millions of Americans across the country,” Wadia said.

The last time solar panels were on the White House wasduring the presidency of Jimmy Carter in the late 1970s.
