The new FBI headquarters will be constructed at Greenbelt, Md., Landover, Md. or Springfield, Va.

A panel of General Services Administration and FBI executives pared the potential site list to those three locations, the GSA announced Tuesday. A fourth possible site, Poplar Point in southeast Washington, D.C., was dropped.

At Greenbelt, the panel is looking specifically at the Greenbelt Metro Station located near the intersection of Interstates 95/495 and Exit 24 (Greenbelt Station) in Prince George's County.

PREVIOUSLY: Where next for the FBI?

In Landover, the panel identified the former Landover Mall, near the intersection of Interstates 95/495 and state route 202, also in Prince George's County.

And in Springfield, the panel identified the GSA Franconia Warehouse Complex near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Franconia Road in Fairfax County.

Now that the shortlist of sites is complete, GSA next will conduct National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews for each site. Those will include opportunities for public comment. During those reviews, GSA will solicit qualified developers. Later, GSA will solicit development proposals from those qualified developers.
