Sylvia Burns, the acting chief information officer at the Interior Department, has been promoted to the agency’s permanent CIO, according to an agency announcement.
Burns has been in the acting CIO position since March, 2014 and previously served as the associate deputy CIO for policy, planning and compliance at the Interior Department.
Burns said in a statement she was honored to be selected CIO.
“As acting CIO I have had the privilege of leading a dedicated team and working collaboratively with our bureaus and offices as we modernize our systems and move our IT Transformation program forward,” Burns said.
Rhea Suh, the assistant secretary for policy, management and budget at the Interior Department, said in a statement that Burns’ extensive knowledge and experience make her a perfect fit to lead the CIO office.
“As the department continues to move forward on critical initiatives like data center consolidation, Sylvia’s leadership and collaborative style will help ensure our success in improving our IT services, while reducing our IT costs,” Suh said.
