United States intelligence analysts believe Russian hackers are leading a campaign to undermine U.S. political organizations, so the White House has a special task force to look at how nation states may manipulate election results and abet turmoil, according to a report by NBC News.

The Foreign Denial and Deception Committee, a part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, is examining the possibility of computer attacks from Russia, China, North Korea and Iran to disrupt and influence elections.

Following the breach of the Democratic National Committee, state election systems in Illinois and Arizona have been targeted, potentially compromising the information of more than 200,000 voters.

California's Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, commented to NBC News that the imaginable threats of election tampering indicated in the classified evidence being gathered were "staggering."
