Former DEA task force officers charged with drug, weapons and records offenses

Recently unsealed indictments reveal two former Drug Enforcement Administration task force officers have been charged with drug conspiracy, weapons offenses, robbery, obstruction of justice and falsification of records in federal investigations.

Karl Emmett Newman, 49, of Kentwood, Louisiana, and Johnny Jacob Domingue, 27, of Maurepas, Louisiana, were originally arrested in early May, and as of Oct. 7 have been indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. 

The FBI, Justice Department Office of Inspector General and DEA Office of Professional Responsibility investigated the case. Assistant Chief Diidri Robinson and Trial Attorney Antonio Pozos of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section are prosecuting.

Newman’s charges include conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and oxycodone, interference with commerce by robbery, possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, unlawful conversion of property by a government officer or employee, falsifying records in a federal investigation and obstruction of justice.

Domingue is charged with falsifying records in a federal investigation.
