Federal employees deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan who are not in the Foreign Service are losing numerous travel, medical and leave benefits because those benefits were not renewed by Congress after they expired Oct. 1.
Expanded family leave takes effect Oct. 31
The Office of Personnel Management issued final regulations Friday allowing federal employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to help a family member who is in the military and deployed overseas, or who is about to deploy.

Most federal employees would have to take two weeks of unpaid leave in fiscal 2012 under a bill introduced Jan. 12 by Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo.

Sick leave allowed so employees can care for flu-stricken
Federal employees will be able to take up to 13 days of sick leave to care for family members who were exposed to a pandemic flu or other serious communicable diseases under new regulations that take effect Jan. 3.
