JOHN B. NERGER

I’ve had many good days, but the best is yet to come. The best day will occur:
* When there are no soldiers left in harm’s way, no families waiting for loved ones to return, no children
worried about their parent’s safety.
* When all barracks, homes training facilities and infrastructure are modernized.
* When we deliver all base services to standard with adequate resources.
* When wounded warriors are cared for properly and families receive the quality of life they deserve.
* When the Army regains its balance, transformation is under control and base realignment and closure (BRAC) is complete.
* When our civilians receive all the leader training and development they need to be all they can be.
* When our installations are energy efficient and secure and on a sound environmental footing.
Until then, I expect to have many more good days. As for the best, I’m still working on it.
Nerger is executive director, Army Installation Management Command.
