The General Services Administration is about to go on a road trip with an appeal based on local economic development.

The agency's Economic Catalyst Initiative will launch with a three-day, three-city tour beginning Nov. 16, to make a case for GSA's ability to help drive economic growth on a local level.

Starting Monday, GSA administrator Denise Turner Roth will head to Detroit; Cambridge, Massachusetts and Charlotte, North Carolina to discuss three projects underway as part of the Economic Catalyst Initiative.

In Detroit, Roth will appear with Rep. Brenda Lawrence, D.-Mich., to talk about a commercial space the agency brought for $1 and plans to turn into a community center. In Cambridge, GSA has exchanged a 14-acre site for economic development.

Finally, Roth will appear in Charlotte, where the GSA is hoping to spur economic development by exchanging a 3.2-acre federal site to promote transit-oriented growth.

The overarching goal of the tour is to help GSA develop projects with local stakeholders for economic growth.
