GSA awarded Trane U.S. Inc. a contract on April 25 to implement energy conservation measures at 10 federal buildings in New York.

The $114-million Energy savings performance contract will include mechanical replacements and other energy-saving initiatives for federal installations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and White Plains, N.Y., GSA officials said.

"This Energy Savings Performance Contract will save approximately $7.4 million in taxpayer dollars and 30 percent in energy consumption in 10 buildings throughout the New York City area," said GSA Public Buildings Service commissioner Norman Dong, in a statement.

"This is an important investment in the Federal government's commitment to sustainability, creating a greener, more efficient federal government."

The contracts are a partnership between the federal government and an energy service company, allowing the agency to pay for the efficiency upgrades with projected cost savings. The cost savings eliminate the need to further appropriations or capital investment.

The new contract projects to reduce energy consumption by nearly 30 percent and water consumption by 20 percent.

The federal buildings under the contract include:

  • 201 Varick Street Federal Building
  • Ronald H. Brown U.S. Mission to the U.N. Building
  • Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House
  • Daniel P. Moynihan U.S. Courthouse
  • Ted Weiss Federal Building
  • Charles L. Brieant Jr. Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse
  • Theodore Roosevelt U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building
  • Emanuel Celler U.S. Courthouse
  • Conrad B. Duberstein U.S. Bankruptcy Courthouse
  • Jacob K. Javits Federal Building
