NASA Deputy CIO Renee Wynn will take over as the space agency's top IT manager later this month, as current CIO Larry Sweet prepares to step down after 28 years in public service.

Wynn will officially take the reins of NASA's CIO office on Sept. 26, though Sweet will stay on in an advisory position for a couple months until his official retirement, planned for Nov. 30.

Wynn has only been with the NASA OCIO since July, however she spent 25 years with the EPA and was brought on with the ultimate goal of replacing Sweet as CIO when he retired.

Sweet joined NASA in 1987 as a contractor before joining the agency as a full-time employee. He served in several IT positions before being named CIO in June 2013.
