The General Services Administration announced a new lease agreement Wednesday that would move the Transportation Security Administration to Alexandria, Virginia..

The new lease agreement, which is projected to take effect in the spring of 2018, will see TSA headquarter in a 625,000 rentable-square-foot facility within the Victory Center Building at 5001 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria.

GSA officials, in a statement, touted a rental rate of $36 per rentable square foot, which was more than 20 percent below the agency's current utilization rate. TSA will also have $50 million for tenant fit-out costs and transition expenses at the site.

The lease agreement went to Eisenhower Real Estate Holdings, LLC, a Prudential-owned company, after an open competitive procurement process.

TSA, currently housed in two locations in Arlington, will remain in its current facilities until completion of construction at the Alexandria site. The current completion projection is set for Spring of 2018.
