The Lockheed Martin board of directors elected former Department of Homeland Security Director Jeh Johnson to the board effective Jan. 1, 2018, the company announced Monday.

Johnson was director of DHS from December 2013 to January 2017 under the Obama administration and has been a partner at the international law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP since his retirement.

Alongside Johnson, the board also elected James D. Taiclet, Jr., an aerospace expert and chairman, president and chief executive officer of American Tower Corporation.

“Jeh and Jim will bring additional critical experience as we develop next generation technology and grow internationally,” said Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin’s chairman, president and CEO. “Jeh’s experience in acquisition and government operations and Jim’s aerospace and global perspective will help advance our ability to anticipate and exceed our customers’ expectations.”

While at DHS, Johnson made cybersecurity a top priority for the department and advocated for love of country as a crucial selling point in attracting needed cyber talent to government service.

According to the Lockheed Martin press release, Johnson will serve on the corporation’s Classified Business and Security Committee and the Ethics and Sustainability Committee.
