David Garcia has been named chief information officer of the Office of Personnel Management, according to an announcement by OPM acting Director Kathy McGettigan.

Garcia takes over as OPM CIO from Dave DeVries, who left the position in September 2017 after a year of service.

Garcia formerly worked as the Maryland State CIO and Cabinet Secretary for Information Technology, appointed by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan. He resigned from the Maryland position in January 2017.

According to the OPM press release, Garcia’s appointment became effective Monday, Oct. 2, 2017.
