Former Federal Chief Information Officer Tony Scott is headed back to the private sector.

Scott, who served as the third Federal CIO from 2015 until Jan. 20 of this year, will become a new member of the Baldrige Foundation Board of Directors in April.

The Baldrige Foundation serves as a private sector nonprofit supporting the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, a public-private partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to discover and promote new methods of performance excellence.

A former CIO at VMWare, Microsoft and the Walt Disney Company, Scott was integral in the push for IT modernization in the federal government and capitalizing on the use of big data analytics.

"We could not have added a more qualified member to our board as we seek to assist organizations facing the critical challenges in the cyber age," said Baldrige Foundation President and CEO

Al Faber in a statement.

Faber touted Scott’s work as Federal CIO on the Baldrige Cybersecurity Excellence Builder, a framework that allows organizations to self-assess their cybersecurity risk management.

"Tony was instrumental in helping us to develop and promote the new Baldrige Cybersecurity Excellence Builder and future framework," said

Faber

. "When Tony agreed to bring his tremendous knowledge of cybersecurity issues to our board, it demonstrated his commitment to the modern-day relevance of Baldrige."

Scott said in a statement that the organization’s approach to issues like cybersecurity risk management on a systems level was one of the things that drew him to the organization.

"Baldrige is developing unique tools to manage risk in the 21st century," Scott said. "I want to lend my knowledge to that ongoing effort."
