The Department of Commerce awarded a $9.9 million sole-source award to cybersecurity firm Sevatec on Sept. 9, stating the company is the only one able to provide critical support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's cyber centers.
The NCSC is made up of several cybersecurity divisions, including the NOAA Computer Incident Response Team (N-CIRT), Enterprise Security Solutions, the Security Operations Center and five Trusted Internet Connection Access Points spread across the U.S.
NOAA's centers also provide cybersecurity support for Commerce's Enterprise Security Operations Center, which manages the security posture of the entire department from a top-level view.
Citing the federal acquisition regulation, the office of the CIO justified the sole-source contract as a "logical follow-on to an order already issued."
The contract includes support services from HP ArcSight and Reston Consulting Group.
Sevatec primarily works with the federal government and currently has contracts with at least 20 agencies.
According to its website, the company offers training and hiring of skilled cybersecurity support, as well as consulting services on issues like cloud security and identity and access management.
