The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has awarded General Dynamics Information Technology with a $75 million contract for software services, the company announced in a release on March 9.

The contract, which could last up to five years with options, calls for software to process claims for CMS's Durable Medical Equipment program. The program provides wheelchairs, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies to qualifying beneficiaries.

General Dynamics said in the release that designed the first DME software program and has provided support for it "for over two decades."

"GDIT has extensive experience supporting major, complex program enhancements and assisting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in achieving its mission," said Marcus Collier, senior vice president of GDIT's Health and Civilian Solutions division, in the release.

"We are committed to CMS and to supporting its efforts to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries receive the highest quality of care."

The company said work on the software would be continued at its Towson, Md. facility.
