The Bureau of Land Management's Nevada office is looking for a new network to manage its operations for the Burning Man Festival.
The agency issued a solicitation on June 7 requesting a computer network and support facilities to manage its Incident Command System during the event, which will take place Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Black Rock City, Nevada — the temporary encampment constructed on federal lands.
The art festival is annually held in the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area, and the BLM helps manage attendance levels, develops special permits for the event, and coordinates with state and local agencies to provide safety and service.
Burning Man draws up to 70,000 participants to the desert basin area, requiring the BLM to establish a communication and operations command center to monitor the event.
The solicitation requests "a fully functional computer network, technical services, technical support, software applications and hardware to ensure a fully functional, operational and reliable Law Enforcement Data network and Incident network at the BLM Headquarters (BLM JOC) and other nearby locations in ‘Black Rock City, Nevada.’"
Interested contractors will need to provide Local Area Network coverage, secure Wi-Fi coverage, augmented Verizon Wireless LTE coverage, Pan Tilt Zoom IP Camera and other camera coverage and Voice Over Internet Protocol phone and fax lines.
Contractors have until June 26 to respond and can find more information on FedConnect or by contacting Gregory Kothman at
