An Ohio man was indicted Wednesday for allegedly planning to kill government employees at the Capitol Building in D.C. and conspiring to bring others in on the plot.
Christopher Lee Cornell, 20, of Green Township, Ohio, was arrested on Jan. 14 after an investigation uncovered a plan to murder federal officers and employees that had been in development since August. During that time, Cornell allegedly tried to recruit at least one other person to join the attack.
At the time of arrest, he was in possession of two semi-automatic rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition.
He was taken into custody after posting to Twitter in support of Islamic terrorists and meeting with a FBI informant, WCPO in Cincinnati reports, citing court documents.
Cornell is charged with attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States and solicitation to commit a crime of violence — both carrying maximum sentences of 20 years in prison — and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, punishable by a mandatory five-year sentence.
He is scheduled for arraignment Jan. 22
