(Dec. 17, 2015) Sailors man the rails on the flight deck of aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) as the ship arrives in its new homeport of Naval Station Norfolk. Washington arrives at Naval Station Norfolk as part of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9 following its forward deployment in Japan. Washington’s arrival to Norfolk is part of a three-carrier swap with USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). After serving seven years as the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier in Yokosuka, Japan, Washington proceeded to San Diego for a 10-day crew swap turnover with Ronald Reagan in August 2015. The M777A2 has an unassisted range of 15 miles. The Marines conducted the training to solidify team cohesion and enhance their readiness to complete live-fire missions in preparation for Exercise Cold Response 16. Cold Response 16 is a multinational, Norwegian-led exercise that prepares more than 15,000 troops from 16 countries for support and combat operations in harsh conditions while working together to create stronger bonds between the allied forces.   • Chef Robert Irvine, best known from the TV shows “Dinner: Impossible” and “Restaurant: Impossible,” joined 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, “Golden Dragons,” for some early morning physical training at Bagram, Afghanistan, Dec. 17, 1015. The Golden Dragons, part of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, invited Irvine to join them in this strength and endurance exercise, as he is also well know for his physical health-being chosen as one of the fittest men in America by Men’s Fitness magazine in 2007. Irvine will also be hosting a show during his visit to Bagram Air Field.
