A Florida resident has been found guilty of defrauding the Department of Veterans Affairs to the tune of nearly $400,000 over 15 years.

Veronica Dale Hahn of Bonifay, Florida, received $394,800.85 in veterans disability benefits between November 2001 and February 2016 based on claims of 100 percent service-connected blindness in both eyes.

However, Hahn was found to have obtained multiple states' drivers licenses with no vision restrictions; was observed driving a personal vehicle; and held multiple positions in state correctional facilities that required normal eyesight, despite her claims to various Veterans Health Administration and private-practice doctors that she was almost completely blind.

Hahn pleaded guilty to theft of government funds during a January 2016 trial.

Hahn will spend nine months in federal prison and has been ordered to pay all received benefits in restitution, following a May 1 sentencing.
