William Lewis Weaver II was charged with two counts of threatening to assault and murder federal officials, officers and employees after allegedly posting several tweets in late August and early September.

The tweets threatened use of bombs and a shotgun and were targeted at employees of the CIA and State Department, as well as Virginia law enforcement officers, according to the Department of Justice press release on the indictment.

Weaver, 36, is a resident of Herndon, Virginia.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment on Weaver on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander P. Berrang will now prosecute the case in the Eastern District of Virginia.
