A fiscal 2017-2019 IT Strategic Plan will assist the Department of State in effectively and efficiently fulfilling its diplomatic mission by promoting innovative technologies, secure global IT infrastructure and advanced business management practices, according to a dedicated section on the agency's website.
Introduced by State Department Chief Information Officer Frontis Wiggins, the ITSP's mission to create an interconnected, informed workforce is said to have been shaped by a year of conversations with stakeholders in bureaus, offices and overseas posts to identify strategic themes reflecting departmental priorities.
With over 275 overseas posts in nearly 200 countries, the State Department runs more than 100,000 computers and nearly 40,000 mobile devices. The agency says its ITSP vision is to maintain applications and around-the-clock IT services that improve operations and collaboration between the State Department, its partners and foreign audiences.
Multiple tools will be delivered to foster collaboration, knowledge management, analytics, secure on-demand access to information and enhanced business service offerings for an evolving mobile customer base.
The vision and strategic goals reflected in the ITSP are in alignment with the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, the Department of State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development Strategic Plan and department functional bureau and regional strategies.
