Kathleen Murphy, a veteran journalist who worked most recently at the Congressional Research Service, has joined Federal Times as editor. Murphy takes over from Jill Aitoro, who is now editor of Defense News.
At CRS, Murphy managed research in the legislative and budget process section. Prior to that she was assistant editor at MLex Market Insight, which followed nine years as a managing editor at CQ Roll Call.
"With Jill Aitoro moving to head up daily operations at Defense News, it was imperative that we hired a top-notch replacement," said David Smith, vice president and general manager of the Defense and Federal Group at Sightline Media. "We're excited to have someone with the journalism skills, energy, vision and enthusiasm of Kathleen to join our staff. She will make a great editor for Federal Times. "
Murphy, who began work on June 6, said she is "pleased to join dedicated journalists at Sightline Media Group covering management issues, federal IT and the cyber industrial complex. I look forward to giving federal managers and IT decision makers the news they need to succeed. Public service, exemplified by the federal workforce, is the noblest calling, and it's a great honor to be editor of Federal Times."
