Federal employees will be getting the day after Christmas off.
President Obama issued an executive action Dec. 5 giving all federal employees Dec. 26 as a holiday, although certain employees may still have to report to work.
A petition on the White House website in November asking for Dec. 26 off failed to get the required number of signatures to get a response from the administration, falling short of the 100,000 signature threshold.
It’s not the first time in recent memory that feds have gotten a day off. Obama granted feds Dec. 24, 2012 as a holiday and a half-day off Dec. 24, 2009. President George W. Bush also provided feds with several days off through executive orders.
