A former DoD IT manager has been sentenced to 84 months in prison as a result of a sexual relationship he had with a 13-year-old girl while stationed in Honduras.
William Curry McGrath pleaded guilty on April 28, 2015 to engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in a foreign place and was sentenced in federal court in the Southern District of Texas on Oct. 19.
McGrath, 55, was the director of the Network Enterprise Center at the Soto Cano Air Base in Comayagua, Honduras from December 2012 to March 2014.
During that time, McGrath admitted to a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. He provided her with gifts and money in exchange for sexual acts, prosecutors said in a statement.
The case was handled by the FBI and Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative to prevent child exploitation. In addition to prison time, McGrath was ordered to register as a sex offender and to serve five years of supervised release once his sentence concludes.
Amy E. Larson of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sherri Zack handled the successful prosecution.
