The Department of Homeland Security’s acting deputy chief information officer and senior accountable official for risk management is leaving the agency. Barry West will be retiring from federal service, a DHS spokesperson confirmed with Federal Times.
West became acting deputy CIO in October 2017 and was on a term appointment to the role, meaning that he could only serve three years or less.
Prior to that, West had worked as the CIO for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, the Department of Commerce, Federal Emergency Management Agency and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as well as various private sector jobs.
West’s most recent government service at FDIC was colored by his abrupt resignation from the post in August 2015 after only nine months on the job, two of those spent on administrative leave.
West’s last day as DHS’s deputy CIO will be May 31, 2018, according to the DHS spokesperson, though the agency did not state who would be taking West’s place.
