More than 25,000 federal employees and retirees will have to choose new health insurance plans in 2015, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
That is because five plans out of about 257 will no longer be participating in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, forcing the plan participants to choose new options.
The upcoming open season for health, dental and vision insurance and flexible spending accounts will be held from Nov. 10 to Dec. 8.
The plans that are no longer available are:
■United Healthcare of the Midwest, Inc., in Illinois and Missouri;
■Coventry Health Care in Maryland;
■Total Health Care USA in Michigan;
■Anthem Healthkeepers, Inc., in Virginia;
■Optima Health Plan in Virginia.
Most plans drop out because the costs have become too high or the number of people enrolled has fallen too far, according to OPM.
